Toyota Kluger GX Test & Review

When looking to buy a new car we are often pulled away from the entry level by the salesman and shown the higher levels in the range. Showing the extra features and all the gizmos and gadgets but at a price you weren’t wanting to pay.

If a medium size, constant AWD SUV is what you are in the market for then start looking at the Toyota Kluger GX. This entry level model has plenty of the mod-cons we all want and it is around $10,000 cheaper than the next one in the range.

Sophisticated, spacious and with advanced safety technology, designed to give peace of mind the Kluger GX is built for the modern family.

For the driver there is a 3.5L Dual VVT-i V6 engine with Direct Injection with an 8-speed automatic transmission to pull this decent size SUV around. The Kluger GX also does 9.5L/100km and can get better on longer trips.

As a seven seater you can fit in the family with ease as even the third row has better leg room then some of its competitors. The air conditioning works all the way through the cabin keeping everyone cool and helping to keep the smelly sport sock smell in the rear.

While I think that Toyota could have done more with their dash and layout to be more modern, everything you need in the modern car is there. This entry level gets a 6.1” screen audio display with Toyota Link, 6 iPod 7/USB8 connectivity, CD player, AM/FM tuner and AUX input for portable audio players.

In terms of driver safety there is a huge array of items, something you would expect in a Toyota. ABS, Vehicle Stability Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Downhill Assist Control (DAC) – AWD only, Seven SRS airbags, Seatbelt warning (Driver, front passenger and second row passengers) which is good to know if the kiddies haven’t strapped in, Pre-collision safety system with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Control and Sway Warning, Rear parking sensors, Reversing camera and more.

So if you are in the market for a new decent size AWD SUV, start at the bottom as sometimes there are some really good deals down there. For only a few bits and pieces less and a good chunk of money saving, the Toyota Kluger GX might just be the one for you.

Starting from $53,482 drive away.
