Track Action at Mt Cotton

Racing resumed at Mt Cotton for the fifth round of the Carric Accounting & Business Services – Tighe Cams 2019 Mt Cotton Hillclimb Series run by the MG Car Club of Qld.

The event was held in dry and heated conditions with drivers working hard in their cars to lower their times and walk away with a fist full of points for the series.

While all of this thrilling on track action was taking place, there were plenty who were thinking about friends and family suffering in the bushfires in South East Queensland as it was all happening on the weekend.

However the event must go on and it was a day for good numbers however only one class record was broken from drivers in the field.

Geoff Cohen once again broke his class record for Group Q – Sports with a 46.41 seconds pass from his previous record of 47.25 seconds. This time also helped Cohen to take a 19th place outright.

The Formula Libre – 1301cc & over class saw seven drivers battle for the fastest time. Getting close to the record, 36.69, but just not there was Dean Amos in his Gould GR55B with a blistering pace of 36.94 seconds. Amos lowered his best time in the top six run to 36.80.

Second place went to Warwick Hutchinson in the always quick orange OMS 28 RPV03 with a time of 38.70. Hutchinson only just took second from Michael Von Rappard by one hundredth of a second with Von Rappard doing his best time on his first run of the weekend.

On run six on Sunday of the event, Jim Milliner had a decent off on the way up the first section of the track. Although he was okay, the car will require many man hours to repair. Despite going off, Milliner was able to hold onto first place in class and fourth outright after setting a time of 39.45 seconds on his second pass of the weekend.

The sixth and final round of the series will start on Saturday November 30 and conclude on Sunday December 1.
