2021 Queensland Hillclimb Series Run with 2022 Looking Strong

The 2021 Mt Cotton Hillclimb Series took place over six rounds in a year that was messed up with COVID interruptions.

Despite the pandemic, the series was able to get many competitors turn up and give it their all on the MG Car Club of Queensland’s 946 metre track.

There were 27 classes that featured at least one driver in them, however most were hotly contested, and it was a vast mix of cars from many eras.

The 2021 Appleby Top Six Challenge, which sees the fastest six drivers from each round compete for the fastest time at the round in a separate challenge, saw 23 different drivers over the six rounds.

Brett Bull in his Van Diemen RF03K took out the top spot with 54 points over Dean Tighe in his Empire Wraith on 48 points. Greg Tebble driving his Van Diemen FF2000, Dean Amos in his Gould GR55B, Warwick Hutchinson in the OMS 28 RPV03 and Edward McCane in his DJ Racecars Firehawk finished third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The 2021 season was exciting and gave other drivers and spectators plenty to watch. With most of the events free for spectators to enter, the racing so close to Brisbane is fun to be at for all ages.

The new season of the Mt Cotton Hillclimb Series kicks off in early March but newcomers and those wanting to blow out the cobwebs from the off season will hit the track in early February at the Come & Try/Test & Tune day.

2022 will also see MG Car Club of Queensland host the Queensland Hillclimb Championship and the Australian Hillclimb Championship. With borders opening across the county, drivers from afar are expected to make the journey for an exciting four days of action.
